A major new extension to the Essential Meta Model that provides powerful support for Strategy Management activities is now available.

Bringing together the requirements and solutions of both ECP-4 and ECP-7, the Strategy Management Pack introduces new meta classes, updates a number of meta classes and provides some basic views for strategic roadmaps and strategic plans.


New Capabilities

ECP-4 defines an approach and meta model to support Strategy Management activities, in particular adding the capability to define Roadmaps.

ECP-7 defines the approach for managing objectives in terms of the Actors - both Individual and Group - to whom the objectives apply. This is particularly important to understand the various objectives of different organisations in a federated structure or where extended enterprise needs to be captured.

Strategic Roadmaps

New meta classes to capture Roadmap Models are now available. These roadmaps show how the architecture will transition between different states.

The Architecture State and Strategic Plan meta classes have been updated to fit into the roadmap models. Each milestone in a roadmap is associated with an Architecture State and Strategic Plans are associated with each roadmap transition to define how the architecture will transition between states.

Strategic Plans have been extended to associate the Projects that will deliver or implement the Strategic Plan.

Time Class

To provide a more structured approach to capturing and managing information about time and dates, a new Time meta class is introduced. This abstract class has three sub-classes - Year, Quarter and Gregorian - to define and re-use dates at three levels of detail.

The Strategy Management Pack migrates existing date fields in the Strategic Plan, Programme, Project and Project Activity instances to use the new Time class.

Taxonomies

Identified as part of the solution for ECP-7, for classifying objectives for Actors, the Taxonomy class has been introduced to enable user-defined taxonomies to be created to overlay classification hierarchies to the ontology supported by the Essential Meta Model.

Any instance in the meta model can be classified by any number of additional taxonomy terms.

Views

In addition to the meta model updates, sample Views for Roadmaps are provided in the Strategy Management Pack. These Views demonstrate the queries that can be made from the Roadmaps, Architecture States and Strategic Plans. More advanced Roadmap Views are in development.

A strategic alignment analysis View is included that demonstrates the strategic technology alignment of the technology architecture of a selected Application Provider.

The Views in this pack also include some enhancements to support the new Time class and recent enhancements to the Essential Architecture Reporting tab.
